About Me
They say that nothing worth doing is easy. Like everyone else, I’ve had my ups and downs. But if you ask me, I’ll always tell you that I wouldn’t change a thing. Why? Because it made me who I am today. I'm Emelyne Six and I am who I am.
That's me, Emelyne Six. I was born on October 22nd, 1997 and I lived in Belgium for almost my whole life. First I lived four years in Comines-Warneton, which is in Wallonia, the French part of Belgium, and then we moved to Ostend, which is at the North Sea and in Flanders, the Dutch part of Belgium. This is why I know both languages. I also know English fluently, especially because of all the music, movies and series that I watch which is a big passion of mine and the main reason I always wanted to do something in the media.
I studied Journalism at the Artevelde University College in Ghent where I had four amazing years. I learned a lot about journalism and radio. In those four years I was able to go study abroad. In 2017, I had the chance to go study abroad and make one of my dreams come true which was going to Canada. So my destination was easy: Canada. And I did it. I studied abroad for one semester at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. I studied Broadcasting - Radio and learned a lot in that period of time. I made a lot of great friends and even a family. I had six amazing months in London. I didn't want to go back home to Belgium, but I had to to finish my studies and graduate. But I knew I wasn't letting this dream go and I would do anything to go back to Canada.
After graduating in June of 2019, I knew it was time to take action and go back to Canada. So I decided to get a work permit for a year and go back. I left at the start of October 2019 and was in Canada for a year. First I lived in London, ON for 8 months and then I moved to the capital, Ottawa where I lived until September 2020. My work permit was valid for only one year, so I couldn't stay longer, but the dream goes on. Now I will work in Belgium for a little bit to gain knowledge and experience, and then, the plan is to go back in a few years, this time to stay permanently.
I had an amazing year in Canada, even with the coronavirus around. A lot of things I wanted to do were cancelled because of that and there was a moment during the lockdown that I couldn't really go outside, but I still made the best of my time in London and Ottawa. I learned a lot about myself and grew as a human being. I am very happy I did it and I can't wait for the next adventure which is finding a job in Belgium in the media, especially something I'm passionated about.
Music and movies are a big part of my life. I play the guitar and like to sing along with my favourite songs. I even have a tattoo of the Yin Yang symbol with in it a guitar and a music bar. I studied at the music school for a few years and learned to play guitar. I still love to play in my free time.
My big inspiration is Miley Cyrus. I've been a big fan since the beginning and I will stay a fan until the end. She learned me to not be afraid of being yourself and living your life. So that's what I'm doing and that's why I want to make my passion my work. Like that I don't have to work in my life, because it won't feel like working.
I already told you about my tattoo and my love for music, but why the Yin Yang symbol?
I chose for the Yin Yang symbol for several reasons. The first one is balance. I'm a libra, so balance is important. In life everything has to be in balance or something bad can happen. That's why I like to work hard but also play hard.
The second one is the link with Buddhism. A few years ago I started to like Buddha figurines and that's how my love for Buddhism started. I started meditating and I try to stay positive and live day by day. That's why my motto is "Carpe Diem". Seize the day.
I am optimistic and open-minded. I never judge someone by their looks. I'm queer and proud of it. Trusting someone and able to be yourself with that person are the most important things in love, not the gender of that person. Everyone is human and equal, but we are also all unique individuals. That makes our world more beautiful.
I'm a teamplayer and like to work together on a project, but I'm also very independent and can work by myself. I'm flexible, dynamic, creative and I like to use my imagination.
I already have some experience in journalism, radio and social media, which you can read more about in my portfolio.
